France Insoumise ramps up strategy for 2027 presidential bid at massive Valence festival

France Insoumise’s Amfis festival in Valence, held from August 20-23, showcased a spectacular drone show and a series of debates aimed at preparing the movement for the 2027 presidential race. Speakers referenced past revolutionary figures and warned that a clash with the European Union would be unavoidable if the party gains power. Manuel Bompard argued that the party must tap the growing abstention gap - the “fourth bloc” - especially among young voters, and launch a door-to-door registration drive that has already signed up 1,500 people.

Lawmakers such as Clémence Guetté suggested the party might ignore EU treaties that block its programme, while Jérôme Legavre stressed the need for a mass-public campaign to convert supporters into voters. The festival also aimed to build a united left front by courting the Écologistes, the PCF and splinter groups like Verts Populaires, hoping to prevent the vote-splitting that cost the left in 2022.
