France's unions and yellow vests schedule new protests through December

French unions and yellow-vest activists have announced a series of actions, including a protest at the National Assembly and an "Acte III" on 31 October, to keep pressure on the government.

Following the "Acte II" demonstration on 24 October, French unions and the yellow-vest movement announced further actions to sustain pressure on President Emmanuel Macron's government. The schedule features a symbolic protest in front of the National Assembly, a coordinated "Acte III" slated for 31 October, an inter-syndical strike on 5 November, and a firefighters' rally on 4 December. The CGT celebrated the earlier turnout, while the CFDT highlighted ongoing grievances over wages and housing costs.

Badiaa Souidi of the regional CFDT emphasized that the minimum wage does not cover basic expenses. Student unions also described the recent protest as a success and called for continued participation.

Why it matters

Continued protests could force policy changes on wages and living costs in France.
