Frankfurt Book Fair opens with Czechia as honored guest and cultural showcase

The Frankfurt Book Fair began with a ceremony featuring Czechia as the honored guest, presenting dozens of Czech authors and a program of performances and readings.

Tuesday evening marked the opening of the 78th Frankfurt Book Fair, the world’s largest literary exhibition, with Czechia serving as the honored guest. The Czech delegation will feature roughly seventy authors and a pavilion presented by representatives of the Czechia 2026 project, the Moravská zemská knihovna and the Český literární centrum, alongside the Prague architectural studio JinJan. The inauguration ceremony included music by Iva Bittová and Tim Roth, and readings from writers Radka Denemarková and poet Marie Iljašenko.

Speakers at the press conference included festival chief Juergen Boos, historian Jill Lepore, European commissioner Glenn Micallef, Czech culture minister Oto Klempíř and German culture minister Wolfram Weimer. The fair opens to professionals on Wednesday and to the public on Friday, running through Sunday with over a thousand speakers and multiple exhibitions in Frankfurt and nearby Offenbach.
