Freight train carrying hazardous material derails at Rákos station, causing major delays
A three-car freight train loaded with dangerous cargo slipped off the tracks at Rákos station, prompting an immediate halt to rail traffic.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when two tank cars overturned and a third tipped over, spilling petroleum from one of the tanks. MÁV halted all train movements at the station at 16:30 and began technical rescue operations. The derailment is expected to cause significant disruptions on the Budapest-Hatvan-Miskolc and Budapest-Szolnok-Békéscsaba lines during the afternoon. Rail traffic is being rerouted while the site is cleared.
