French drug agency warns women using desogestrel contraceptives of slight brain tumor risk

ANSM has begun a mailing campaign to inform patients who receive desogestrel 75 µg contraceptives about a modest increase in the likelihood of developing a brain tumour. The agency emphasizes that the risk is small and aims to reassure recipients rather than cause alarm. Desogestrel is a progestogen used alone or combined with estrogen and marketed under names such as Cerazette, Optimizette and Antigone.
