French fishermen meet fishing minister after three days of fuel-price protests

For three consecutive days, French fishermen have staged blockades at fuel depots in locations such as Sète, Fos-sur-Mer and Frontignan to highlight soaring diesel prices and worsening working conditions. They argue that taxed diesel has risen from 60 centimes to 1.08 euros, making fuel expenses account for three-quarters of daily costs, and they also cite heavy administrative reporting requirements and reduced wages. The protests prompted a meeting with Minister of Fisheries Catherine Chabaud in Paris, scheduled for late morning.

Fishermen's representatives stressed that the demonstration will persist until the minister responds to their calls for reduced fuel taxes, eased administrative rules, and adjustments to the West Med fishing restrictions. Police have lifted the blockades, but the movement's future hinges on the outcome of the talks.
