French gas bills expected to rise by about €120 in 2026, regulator says

According to the Commission de régulation de l'énergie, the average French household’s gas bill for 2026 is projected to be about €120 higher than in 2025, reflecting roughly a 30% increase since January. Emmanuelle Wargon, the commission’s president, explained on Radio Classique that this estimate assumes price levels remain stable through the end of the year. She cautioned that predicting 2027 prices is premature, as market conditions can shift rapidly.

Wargon also reassured that France’s gas reserves are currently at 76% of capacity and are filling fast, aiming to reach the 85% level required by the European Union before winter. While European storage remains slightly lower, she expressed confidence that imports will continue to meet demand. When asked about the ongoing electricians and gas workers strike, she declined to comment on tariff disputes, noting they fall outside her remit.
