French government outlines five priority actions to address high school challenges

Sébastien Lecornu delivered a five-point roadmap to ministers aimed at easing student and staff difficulties after a week of nationwide high-school protests, with initial measures to be presented by the end of October.

Following a week of student mobilisations across France, Sébastien Lecornu sent a detailed roadmap to all ministers that identifies five priority projects to tackle the problems faced by high-school pupils and educational personnel. The initiatives, based on input from academic life councils, include guaranteeing that lessons continue, equipping teaching teams to improve student outcomes, securing decent teaching conditions and preparing schools for extreme heat, reorganising school days more efficiently, and increasing transparency of the Parcoursup post-baccalaureate orientation platform while giving greater visibility to student opinions.

He ordered each academy to begin a fast-track process for covering long-term staff absences and filling vacant posts, with an early assessment to follow. A meeting with regional presidents is scheduled to discuss the renovation of school facilities, and the 2027 education budget has been raised. Lecornu also urged the resumption of classes wherever security allows, affirmed a firm stance against violence, and expressed support for students, staff, police and gendarmes affected by attacks.
