French health and solidarity NGOs launch unprecedented week-long national protest
Charitable health and social organisations in France will stage a series of demonstrations across the country from Monday to Saturday, under the slogan “Et si nous arrêtions vraiment?”.
A coalition of French solidarity and health charities announced a coordinated national mobilisation lasting from Monday through Saturday, using the rallying call “Et si nous arrêtions vraiment?”. Daniel Goldberg, who leads the Union nationale interfédérale des œuvres et organismes privés non lucratifs sanitaires et sociaux, said the actions are intended to expose how precarious these NGOs have become despite serving millions.
The campaign will feature gatherings in several cities, including Saint-Nazaire, Nantes, Bourges, Paris, Caen, Lille, Arras, Lyon, Toulouse and Montpellier. Participants plan to demonstrate the essential services they provide, from home care to emergency housing and child protection. The protests are designed to pressure policymakers into offering concrete solutions to the sector’s funding and staffing crises. Organisers stress that the sector’s contribution to the national economy and social welfare cannot be ignored.
Why it matters
The protest underscores the dependence of millions on NGOs and pressures the government to resolve chronic funding shortfalls.
