French left-wing parties targeted in data breach, PCF files sold, LFI denies hack
The Parti communiste français confirmed a leak of its member data, while La France insoumise says no hack occurred despite online activist contacts.
The Parti communiste français confirmed that a breach exposed part of its membership and sympathiser records after being alerted by the Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information, prompting immediate security actions and a pending legal complaint. The compromised dataset, which includes email addresses and phone numbers, was allegedly offered for sale, though the party asserts no financial data was included.
La France insoumise rejected claims of a hack, stating an internal review found only publicly known event-contact details accessible. Contradicting that, one outlet accessed a portion of the database containing activist names and local organizer information. The incident follows a May leak of LFI’s Action populaire social-media network. Both parties have notified the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés and are cooperating with authorities to determine the source and scope of the leaks.
Why it matters
A data breach of political party members raises privacy concerns and could affect campaign activities.
