French officials say Champions League PSG vs Barcelona will go ahead despite partial curfew

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that the Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona will not be postponed, even as partial curfews are introduced in certain districts.

In response to recent unrest linked to protests, the French government decided to impose partial, area-specific curfews beginning Monday evening. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu communicated this measure after an inter-ministerial crisis session. He then handed the discussion to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who ruled out any postponement of the upcoming Champions League tie between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona.

Nuñez emphasized that the match, along with other European fixtures such as those in Lille, will proceed as scheduled. Authorities will publish a precise map of the curfew zones later in the day after consulting the relevant municipal leaders. Consequently, the Tuesday night encounter at the Parc des Princes in the city's 16th district remains confirmed.

Why it matters

The decision shows the government's priority to keep major sporting events on schedule despite security restrictions.
