French police roll out armored vehicles in Paris and Marseille ahead of protests

Armored Centaure vehicles were deployed by police and gendarmes in Paris and Marseille on Saturday as authorities prepared for cost-of-living demonstrations.

On 24 October, French security forces positioned Centaure armored vehicles behind the National Assembly in Paris and patrolled Marseille streets with the same vehicles and a water cannon. The move follows recent clashes, looting and arson in several French cities. Officials say the deployment is intended to deter violence during upcoming protests over rising living expenses.

Why it matters

The deployment signals heightened tension over cost-of-living protests and the government's readiness to use force to maintain order.
