French President Macron to make state visit to Spain in late September

Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron are slated for a state visit to Spain in the final days of September, with official confirmation still pending from the Casa del Rey and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The itinerary, still under discussion, will feature a formal dinner at Madrid's Royal Palace and is being framed as the French president's farewell tour before his term concludes. The visit comes after King Felipe VI's upcoming trip to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which the government says will occur when conditions allow.

Earlier this year, the two leaders exchanged invitations, and the visit was delayed by political, diplomatic and pandemic-related factors, as well as pending ratification of the 2023 Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Spain and France.
