French shoe chain André enters liquidation after 130 years in business
The historic French retailer André, founded in 1896, has been placed in judicial liquidation after it fell into insolvency and reduced its staff to 30 employees.
André, which celebrated its 500th store in 1983, is now unable to continue operating and has entered liquidation. The company is in cessation of payments and its workforce has shrunk to just 30 workers. Court documents cite unresolved lease disputes with its landlord and failed negotiations with shopping-centre giant Westfield as key reasons the business cannot be rescued.
Why it matters
The liquidation ends a century-old French shoe brand, affecting jobs and the retail market.
