French State to Take Lead Shareholding in Mining Group Eramet
The French government will become Eramet's top shareholder by acquiring the Duval family's stake through a capital increase.
A capital increase at Eramet will enable the French State, via the Agence des participations de l’État, to become the company's largest shareholder. The State will subscribe to the new issuance and also buy a portion of the Duval family's shares, ending the family's controlling role that began in 1999. Prior to the transaction, the State was the second-largest investor in the miner.
Government representatives stressed that strategic metals are essential for national strength and have grown in relevance. Eramet's portfolio includes several metals linked to the energy transition and electrification. The move reflects a broader policy to secure supply chains for critical resources.
Why it matters
State control of Eramet secures access to strategic metals vital for France's energy transition.
