French suspect in 2021 Bordeaux murder captured in Georgetown suburb
Dane Langhorne, a 29-year-old Frenchman convicted in absentia for the killing of Alicia Faye, was seized by Guyanese security forces in the outskirts of Georgetown.
French citizen Dane Langhorne, 29, was apprehended by Guyanese police in a suburb of Georgetown after evading capture for two years. He had been wanted under an Interpol European arrest warrant and was convicted in absentia by the Cayenne court of assizes to 30 years for murdering 25-year-old Alicia Faye, a Bordeaux native involved in cocaine smuggling between France and French Guiana. The operation was coordinated with French security services, which have been pursuing the case for months.
Langhorne was the last person seen with Faye before she was shot dead in Cayenne shortly after arriving on a drug-buying mission. His detention may enable a retrial in France, contingent on the outcome of extradition negotiations between France and Guyana.
Why it matters
The capture could allow French courts to try the suspect and provide closure for the victim's family.
