French TV Export Sales Slip to Decade Low Amid Advertising Decline
France's audiovisual export revenue fell to €164.3 million in 2025, the lowest in ten years, as advertising revenues and broadcaster budgets tightened.
At the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre, the CNC and Unifrance disclosed that French audiovisual exports reached €164.3 million in 2025, marking the lowest level in a decade after a strong 2024 that hit €209.6 million. Fiction stayed the dominant export genre with a 33.4% share but experienced a 27% decline, while documentary sales fell modestly by 2.7% to €43.1 million. Animation revenues dropped dramatically by 30.3% to €32.2 million, the lowest ever, partly due to the liquidation of firms such as Cyber Group and TeamTO.
Regional sales fell across most markets except for modest gains in North America and Africa. Buyers are increasingly favoring established intellectual property and local-focused programming, contributing to the overall contraction in the TV advertising environment and tighter commissioning budgets worldwide.
Why it matters
The slump signals challenges for France's creative industry and reduced cultural influence abroad.
