Fresh air reaches trapped workers in Nepal's flooded hydro tunnels
Australian tunnelling specialist Arnold Dix reports that fresh air has been located in the mud-filled tunnels where hundreds of hydro-plant workers have been trapped since the August 26 floods in Nepal.
Following the devastating floods on August 26 that buried the entrances to several hydropower project tunnels, rescuers have been searching for survivors. Arnold Dix, an expert in tunnelling from Australia, says that for the first time fresh air has been found inside the debris-choked passages. Authorities estimate that up to 900 people may still be inside. Prime Minister Balendra Shah has pledged that rescue efforts will continue without pause.
