Fresno County worker stabbed in downtown park, suspect subdued with taser

A Fresno County employee was attacked with a knife in Courthouse Park on Thursday afternoon, and police quickly detained a suspect in his 50s.

At approximately 1:13 p.m. on Thursday, a Fresno County employee suffered a knife attack in Courthouse Park, a downtown Fresno location. Sheriff’s deputies rushed to the scene, provided aid, and the victim was taken conscious to Community Regional Medical Center, though his condition remains undisclosed. Within minutes, officers spotted a man in his 50s near Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street, in the park’s northwest corner, and used a Taser to subdue him.

The weapon used in the assault was retrieved, and the suspect is expected to receive medical treatment before being booked at the Fresno County Jail. Sheriff John Zanoni described the incident as unprovoked and said investigators are determining whether the employee was specifically targeted.
