From a $3 monthly site to a million-dollar venture: the Klines share their online income tactics
Kelan and Brittany Kline built a personal-finance blog that grew into a seven-figure business, detailing four ways they monetize online.
Kelan Kline quit a brief insurance sales stint and later a deputy role in Rochester, while his wife Brittany left teaching, to grow a personal-finance blog called The Savvy Couple that started on a $2.95-per-month hosting plan. After a nine-month period with no income, a $50 sponsored article convinced Kelan to devote himself full-time, and the site eventually generated $1.3 million in sales in 2023 and $1.1 million in 2024 under the umbrella of Savvy Media Marketing.
Their monetization strategy includes four pillars: display advertising, affiliate marketing, sponsorship deals and selling proprietary products such as courses, memberships and digital downloads. Brittany now runs The Savvy Mama, a spin-off offering a $9-per-month membership with meal plans that has around 1,000 subscribers. Experiencing traffic drops, the couple is prioritizing recurring revenue streams, expanding into YouTube, digital products and a local-business marketing agency. They stress building assets up front to create sustainable, month-after-month income.
