From Media Executive to Mompreneur: Alex Taylor’s Journey Through Health and Business

Alex Taylor left a demanding media leadership role after being diagnosed with Hashimoto's, later founding women's health supplement brand Perelel while navigating pregnancy and motherhood.

Alex Taylor rose quickly in media, becoming president and executive editor of Clique, which publishes titles such as Who What Where, Byrdie and MyDomaine, but the long hours and constant connectivity took a toll on her health. In 2016 she began suffering from hair loss, fatigue, brain fog and other symptoms, culminating in a shingles outbreak that prompted a diagnosis of Hashimoto's disease, which physicians attributed partly to her stress levels.

Recognizing the unsustainable nature of her workload, she left Clique, took a short stint heading Free People Movement while seven months pregnant, and soon after gave birth. Partnering with Victoria Thain Gioia, whose daughter’s birth defect highlighted the importance of prenatal nutrition, Taylor launched the supplement brand Perelel in September 2020 with five products aimed at different pregnancy stages. After bootstrapping through the pandemic, the company raised a seed round led by Unilever Ventures and Willow Growth, followed by investments from Selva Ventures and Prelude Growth Partners. Now based in Los Angeles with a growing team, Perelel has expanded its line to support perimenopause and IVF, while Taylor manages stress through meditation, early bedtime and limiting multitasking with her children.
