FSSAI files prosecution cases against three food firms for safety breaches
India's food regulator has launched legal proceedings against Surya Food & Agro, Dodla Dairy and UEIR Organic Foods for serious violations, including using cattle-feed bran in Priyagold biscuits.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated criminal prosecution against three companies for major food-safety infractions. Surya Food & Agro was found to incorporate cattle-feed bran, clearly labeled for animal consumption, into its Priyagold biscuit production, violating raw-material segregation rules and plant hygiene standards. Dodla Dairy's full-cream milk failed to meet prescribed fat levels and tested positive for detergent/caustic soda, rendering it unsafe.
UEIR Organic Foods' yellow raisins contained detectable pesticide residues. The regulator highlighted additional deficiencies such as pest control lapses, improper storage, and inadequate personnel hygiene across the inspected facilities. Earlier, Surya Food & Agro's licence had been suspended pending these findings.
Why it matters
Consumers face health risks from contaminated foods, and legal action signals stricter enforcement of safety standards.
