FSSAI rescinds ban on eleven Enrica Enterprises liquor brands after compliance promise
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India withdrew its prohibition on eleven Indian-made foreign liquor varieties from Enrica Enterprises, citing the company's pledge to meet regulatory standards within 30 days.
After a recent inspection that identified the use of nature-identical and artificial flavouring substances, the FSSAI southern regional office issued a prohibition order against eleven liquor varieties produced by Enrica Enterprises in Chennai. The state prohibition and excise commissionerate subsequently instructed the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation to cease purchasing and retailing those brands. Within three days, Enrica appealed and pledged to comply with regulatory requirements, prompting the FSSAI to cancel the ban and replace it with a 30-day improvement notice that addresses labelling, good manufacturing and hygiene practices.
The authority confirmed that current inventories are safe for consumption and can remain on shelves. Officials plan to inspect additional liquor manufacturers in the state in the coming weeks. Although the prohibition commissionerate has notified Tasmac of the lifted ban, the corporation awaits formal communication to district managers, with retail outlets closed for Independence Day.
