FSU women's soccer posts back-to-back wins, highlights depth and new talent
Florida State opened the 2026 season with 4-0 and 2-0 victories over Stetson and FIU, extending its non-conference unbeaten run to 35 games.
Florida State women's soccer kicked off the 2026 campaign with a 4-0 triumph over Stetson in DeLand, featuring goals from transfers Sam Erbach, Tanner Strickland and Joelle Jung, plus a first career strike by junior midfielder Peyton McGovern. A minute later Strickland added an assist, while Ashley Henderon and Olivia Page each recorded an assist. The squad then traveled to Miami and defeated FIU 2-0, with Wrianna Hudson and Nyanya Touray scoring in the second half.
Head coach Brian Pensky employed heavy rotation, using 22 players against Stetson and 21 against FIU, a strategy that kept most athletes under 70 minutes. Defensively, the Seminoles allowed only two shots in the first game and nine in the second, with goalkeepers Kate Ockene and Fernanda Mayrink each posting a clean sheet. The early results suggest a deep roster and a solid back line anchored by second-year defender Janet Okeke. The team will host FAU next week at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
Why it matters
The wins show Florida State's depth and readiness for conference play, setting expectations for the season.
