FTSE Russell Maintains Indonesia's Secondary Emerging Status Amid Ongoing Reform Review
FTSE Russell kept Indonesia’s Secondary Emerging market classification unchanged and said it will assess the impact of recent capital-market reforms before its December review.
FTSE Russell confirmed that Indonesia’s market retains its Secondary Emerging status as the firm evaluates recent regulatory changes aimed at improving market integrity. Reforms under review include enhanced shareholder reporting, broader investor classification, minimum free-float rules and upgraded market surveillance tools. After deferring specific index modifications in the March, June and September 2026 cycles, the provider will provide a fresh assessment before its December review.
FTSE Russell said it will keep tracking the implementation and effectiveness of these measures and will seek feedback from market participants. In addition, the firm is watching settlement-funding reforms in South Korea intended to boost liquidity and ease funding pressures on settlement progress payments.
Why it matters
Investors rely on FTSE classifications, so the review affects fund allocations to Indonesia and signals confidence in its market reforms.
