Fuel Relief Scheme registers around 5.91 million Pakistanis, with millions of tokens redeemed
The federal IT and Telecommunication Ministry said about 5.91 million people have signed up for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, and 4.79 million of the 6.18 million tokens issued have been used.
Federal Information Technology and Telecommunication Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja reported that the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme has registered about 5.91 million citizens since its launch, with 6.18 million fuel tokens created and 4.79 million redeemed so far. The programme, aimed at cushioning consumers from volatile global oil prices, now includes motorcycles, Qingqi, rickshaws and cars up to 800 cc, after eliminating the five-litre cap and ownership requirement for rented two-wheelers.
A dedicated control room operates around the clock to oversee registration, token generation and redemption, seeking to resolve issues promptly. Redemption figures are highest in Punjab (3.07 million) and Sindh (1.21 million), with smaller numbers in other regions. Officials are conducting daily monitoring meetings and have deployed staff to petrol stations to address complaints, while awareness campaigns and media outreach continue to expand participation.
