Fuel supply strains hit 13% of French stations as prices surge
Around 13% of French petrol stations are reporting supply problems, while pump prices have risen to record levels.
French authorities report that supply issues now affect about 13% of the country's service stations, a rise of five percentage points since the weekend. A station is classified as "in difficulty" when it lacks either diesel or gasoline. Concurrently, fuel prices have hit new peaks, with diesel averaging €2.29 per litre and gasoline €2.11 per litre.
The price surge is linked to a jump in Brent crude to $108 a barrel, driven by recent disruptions by Houthi forces in the strategic Bab el-Mandeb strait. While most stations remain operational, the growing shortage and price hikes are prompting concern among motorists.
