Fury-Joshua bout enters decisive week as New York venue gains traction
Negotiations for a heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reached a critical stage, with New York emerging as a possible location.
The planned fight between British heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is in a make-or-break phase, as parties negotiate a venue change from the United Kingdom to New York. Madison Square Garden has been cited as the preferred arena, prompting promoter Eddie Hearn to acknowledge the original UK-only clause while remaining open to the new proposal. Matchroom Boxing chief Frank Smith told one outlet that the upcoming week is "100 per cent" critical for finalising terms and giving the boxers an eight-to-ten-week preparation window.
Both athletes recently recorded victories—Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in the seventh round and Joshua KO’d Kristian Prenga after an early knockdown. Smith expressed confidence the bout will happen, even predicting a November date and a potential knockout by Joshua.
Why it matters
The fight could become one of the year's biggest boxing events, affecting fans, broadcasters and the sport's revenue.
