Futuro Nazionale's debut threatens Forza Italia's hold on Reggio Calabria vote

Reggio Calabria's supplementary election, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, is set to challenge Forza Italia's traditional grip on the city. The party, once firmly in control, is dealing with controversy surrounding the appointment of party treasurer Fabio Roscioli and remarks by Tajani about parliamentary ambition. Adding complexity, Roberto Vannacci launched Futuro Nazionale and immediately enlisted former Forza Italia regional leader Domenico Giannetta as its candidate, creating a split in the centre-right vote.

Meanwhile, the centre-left rallied behind Francesco Antonio Benedetto, a well-known cardiologist and former municipal PD leader, who enjoys backing from a broad progressive coalition. The outcome could either give a boost to Vice-Premier Roberto Occhiuto if the centre-right prevails, or deepen fractures within the coalition, especially after the recent defection of Tommaso Calderone.
