Gangnam District pushes medical tourism from the US into Indonesia with new clinic deals
Gangnam officials and local clinics signed multiple agreements in Jakarta, aiming to channel Indonesian patients to Seoul for cosmetic and specialty care.
Gangnam District, long known for its concentration of cosmetic clinics, used the CosmoBeauty Indonesia expo to cement a foothold in Southeast Asia. Over three days at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition, a joint pavilion with six partner hospitals conducted 117 consultations with local travel agencies, medical-tourism operators and visitors. The delegation secured 12 business agreements valued at $550,000 and anticipates $809,000 in contracts for the next year, creating a pipeline for patient referrals and joint marketing.
This push builds on a September US tour in Los Angeles and Orange County that produced 510 consultations and forecasts 137 international patients and $494,000 in revenue. Kim Hyun-ki, the district chief, said the high interest in both markets confirms Gangnam’s strategy of pairing cutting-edge medical services with the appeal of K-beauty. The district also received a Social Impact and Ethical Management award at the expo, underscoring its emphasis on responsible tourism.
Why it matters
The deals could boost Seoul's medical tourism revenue and position Gangnam as a leading international health destination.
