Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi transferred to high-security wing of Ahmedabad jail

Lawrence Bishnoi has been moved to the “Do sau kholi” high-security block at Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, a facility that holds 200 inmates convicted of terrorism and other serious crimes.

Lawrence Bishnoi, a known gangster, was recently placed in the “Do sau kholi” high-security wing of Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad. The wing is built to keep 200 high-risk inmates, including those convicted of terrorism, in four isolated sections of 50 prisoners each, preventing any inter-cell movement. Bishnoi’s cell is about 7.5 × 11 feet in size and shares the block with individuals linked to the 2008 bombings.

Prior to 2023-2024, he regularly made extortion calls, circulated threatening audio and video messages, and even gave interviews from various prisons. However, investigators report that no direct calls or communications have originated from him over the last two years. The move aims to ensure total isolation of the inmate. The report was provided by journalist Raj Shekhar Jha, who specializes in national security and crime reporting.

Why it matters

The transfer shows authorities tightening control over a high-profile criminal with a history of intimidation and extortion.
