Gaon Cable to Launch Nuclear and SMR Cable Production Line in North Carolina
Gaon Cable announced plans to add a nuclear-power cable line at its U.S. subsidiary in Tabor City, North Carolina, targeting the expanding domestic nuclear market.
Gaon Cable disclosed that its U.S. subsidiary, LSCUS, will establish a production line for nuclear-power and small modular reactor (SMR) cables at its Tabor City, North Carolina facility. The move is driven by growing U.S. nuclear capacity as the country seeks to meet surging electricity needs, especially from AI data centres and energy-security priorities. Nuclear plants can require over 50,000 cable circuits, spanning power, control and instrumentation, often in small-volume, highly specialized formats.
LSCUS will pursue the necessary certifications to supply the U.S. nuclear sector and will look to partner with Korean nuclear energy companies to enter the supply chain. Gaon Cable expects demand from new reactors, SMRs, and replacement projects at aging plants, and sees further opportunities as Korean firms increase their participation in U.S. nuclear projects.
Why it matters
The new line could boost U.S. nuclear infrastructure and create local manufacturing jobs while deepening Korean-U.S. energy ties.
