Garda senior representative faces internal probe after publicly raising service concerns
A senior member of the Garda Representative Association has been formally investigated by An Garda Síochána for speaking publicly about workplace issues, including lack of pursuit training.
An internal disciplinary procedure has been launched against a senior Garda Representative Association official after the officer publicly discussed a range of workplace concerns, notably the lack of pursuit training for gardaí. The investigation is said to be grounded in a specific section of the Garda Code governing media communications. Ronan Slevin, the GRA General Secretary, expressed shock and disappointment, accusing Garda management of silencing elected representatives tasked with voicing safety and welfare issues.
An Garda Síochána reiterated its established policy on media engagement and highlighted its respect for the representative bodies under Section 59 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024. The force also noted prior communications to the GRA about these rules. A statement from the Department of Justice has been requested but not yet provided.
