Gatwick runway shut after Norse Atlantic Dreamliner aborts takeoff

A Norse Atlantic Airways Boeing 787-9 was forced to abandon its takeoff on Gatwick's runway 26L, prompting the airport to close the runway and halt all flights.

The transatlantic flight Z0701, bound for New York's JFK, aborted its takeoff on runway 26L at London Gatwick Airport. Emergency vehicles surrounded the aircraft and the runway was declared closed due to a technical problem with the departing plane. As a result, all departures were suspended and incoming EasyJet services were diverted to Luton and Stansted. Airport officials said teams are working to move the aircraft and restore operations as quickly as possible.

Why it matters

The closure disrupts travel for passengers and highlights the operational limits of a major UK hub.
