GBA cleaning notice uncovers decomposed body, husband taken into custody

A Greater Bengaluru Authority directive to owners of vacant land prompted a cleaning operation in Sampigehalli, where officers uncovered a decomposed female body wrapped in a bedsheet. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Anusuya Behera, was later linked to her husband, 32-year-old Sagar Chandra Rawat, who is accused of strangling her following an argument over his earnings and household spending. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police G K Mithun, Rawat kept the body inside their home for three days before discarding it at the vacant site in the early hours of August 14.

Both migrants from Udayapura village in Odisha's Kakatpura area, the couple had married on September 9, 2025, against family wishes and were employed at different hotels in Bengaluru. Police identified the woman by tracing a clothing tag found on her garments to a local retailer, which led to Rawat's arrest at his residence. While family members have recognized the body, officials will conduct DNA analysis to confirm her identity. The case underscores how municipal enforcement actions can expose serious criminal allegations.
