GE Aerospace invests £57 million to expand Prestwick MRO facility and create 150 jobs

GE Aerospace will spend £57 million to enlarge its maintenance, repair and overhaul site at Prestwick Airport, adding a new 55,000-sq-ft building and 150 jobs by 2028.

GE Aerospace announced a £57 million expansion of its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility adjacent to Prestwick Airport, including a 55,000-square-foot building to increase capacity and operational flow. The funding mix comprises £30 million from the company, £27 million from the Ayrshire Growth Deal and £6 million from Scottish Enterprise, with work slated for completion in early 2028. Andy Prow, site leader, said the upgrade will support future demand and create 150 new jobs over five years, while also providing training opportunities for local workers.

South Ayrshire Council leader Brian Connolly described the investment as a significant boost for the local and national economy, reinforcing Prestwick’s status as a leading UK aerospace hub. GE Aerospace also pledged £75,000 to Ayrshire College for new training equipment benefiting around 150 students and apprentices. UK Government ministers Melanie Ward and Deputy First Minister Jenny Gilruth highlighted the project as part of a broader £103 million commitment to the Ayrshire Growth Deal, aimed at fostering skilled jobs and regional growth.
