GE Vernova's CEO drives 600% stock surge by linking AI and power grids

CEO Scott Strazik has steered GE Vernova to a more than 600% rise in its share price by partnering with AI firms and nuclear startups to expand its grid technologies.

GE Vernova, the power-generation arm originally founded by Thomas Edison, has seen its stock climb more than 600% since its April 2024 spin-off, a performance credited to CEO Scott Strazik’s strategic pivot. Strazik has forged R&D partnerships with AI heavyweight NVIDIA and nuclear-energy startup Blue Energy, using their needs to accelerate technology that will later be applied across the grid. He emphasizes that the complex requirements of AI-driven “factories” are driving innovations that will ultimately lower the cost of decarbonizing electricity.

About 25% of the company’s employees and an equal share of its customers were not part of the business before the separation, reflecting a new customer base that includes tech firms previously unfamiliar with GE’s offerings. Strazik also stresses the importance of attracting young talent to meet the massive build-out expected over the next decade. The company now supplies equipment for roughly a quarter of global electricity generation across gas, wind, steam, hydro and nuclear sources, positioning itself at the nexus of energy and AI.
