Gen Z regelt calls for nationwide protests demanding youth influence

The Gen Z regelt alliance announced plans for demonstrations across major German cities, urging greater investment in education, health and climate protection and opposing compulsory military service.

A coalition of young activists called Gen Z regelt has organised a series of protests in several German cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne. Their agenda calls for increased funding for education, health services and climate protection, as well as a rejection of any future compulsory military service. The movement also demands that policymakers involve youth more directly in decision-making processes.

In its statement, Gen Z regelt explicitly disavows violent tactics. However, a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior warned that an extremist, violence-prone scene could try to hijack the demonstrations, and that security authorities at the federal and state levels are closely monitoring the situation.

Why it matters

The protests highlight growing youth demand for policy influence on education, health, climate and military issues in Germany.
