General Atlantic anchors new 625 Madison Avenue tower with 150,000-sq-ft lease

Global investment firm General Atlantic has signed a lease for more than 150,000 square feet on five floors of Related Companies’ upcoming 625 Madison Avenue tower, moving its New York office from Park Avenue Plaza.

General Atlantic, which manages $130 billion in assets worldwide, has committed to more than 150,000 square feet across five floors in the 625 Madison Avenue tower that Related Companies plans to complete by 2029. The lease marks the first anchor commitment for the 53-story, 684-foot tower, allowing the investment firm to relocate from its current Park Avenue Plaza location. Related’s CEO Jeff Blau praised General Atlantic as the type of prestigious, ambitious tenant the building was designed for, while chairman and CEO Bill Ford called the move an investment in the firm’s long-term growth.

The tower, designed by Foster + Partners and Gensler, sits on a vacant lot that previously housed Related’s headquarters before the company moved to the Time Warner Center in 2004. The project was originally envisioned as a 1,200-foot mixed-use skyscraper, but market demand for office space led to a scaled-down design. The lease follows a trend of Manhattan towers securing anchor tenants before construction, with recent examples including BXP’s 343 Madison Avenue and other high-profile office deals.

Why it matters

The lease gives General Atlantic a long-term New York base and helps launch a major new office tower in Manhattan.
