George R.R. Martin Announces 'The Mad King' Play Will Move to London

George R.R. Martin announced on his personal site that the ‘Game of Thrones’ stage show ‘The Mad King’ will move from Stratford upon Avon to London, aiming to attract a larger audience. Produced jointly by the Royal Shakespeare Company and HBO, the play debuted in July at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, where it earned standing ovations despite an initial week of previews being cancelled due to technical problems.

Adapted by playwright Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, the production enjoyed a nearly sold-out six-week engagement that concludes on Friday. Set designer Chloe Lamford coordinated more than 4,000 hours of work and eleven external engineering firms to convert the theatre for the show. While the London venue and exact transfer date remain undisclosed, fans who traveled for the Stratford run are eager for the upcoming performances.
