Georgia boy, 7, lies in coma after truck hits him near school bus stop

Aiden, a seven-year-old from Rome, Georgia, was critically injured on Aug. 21 when he stepped into the road while racing his older brother to a school bus stop and was struck by a Ford F-150 at about 7 a.m. Witnesses administered CPR before emergency crews rushed him to a nearby hospital and subsequently airlifted him to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite Hospital. Doctors diagnosed a diffuse axonal injury, a severe ligament tear between his skull and neck, as well as fractures to his pelvis, ribs, clavicle and wrist, leading to his intubation and medically induced coma.

Police reported the truck driver remained at the scene, was not speeding, showed no signs of impairment, and will not face charges. A GoFundMe page set up by his aunt describes Aiden as a “strong little man” who enjoys Paw Patrol, TikTok dancing and being “rough and tough.” The road was wet from earlier storms, and officials noted he was not at a crossing or boarding the bus at the time of the crash.
