Georgia Forms Committee to Redesign Voting Equipment Standards Ahead of 2028 Election

Georgia’s Election Equipment Specifications and Standards Committee gathered at the Capitol to lay the groundwork for a uniform voting tabulation system required for the 2028 election. The group, created under Senator Max Burns’ SB 3EX legislation, postponed the phase-out of QR-code tabulation until 2028 and now aims to adopt a method readable by humans. Committee member Deidre Holden said the meeting focused on scheduling future sessions and establishing procedural rules.

Co-chair Representative Victor Anderson noted that experts in cybersecurity, auditing and accessibility are being consulted to shape specifications. Former State Election Board member Janice Johnston highlighted the importance of hand-marked paper ballots for forensic audits, while VoterGA co-founder Garland Favorito called the procurement presentation a key step toward secure results.
