Georgia GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Faces Scrutiny Over Multi-Million Dollar Labor Settlements

Health executive-turned-Republican candidate Rick Jackson is promoting himself as a job-creating outsider, promising to bring "business solutions" to Georgia. However, court filings show that two companies within his Jackson Healthcare portfolio agreed to pay almost $2 million and $3 million to resolve class-action lawsuits alleging unpaid overtime, bonuses and other wage violations by nursing staff. The first settlement covered about 300 workers, while the second addressed claims from more than 5,000 current and former international nurses.

Although the settlements did not attribute personal wrongdoing to Jackson, they clash with his campaign narrative of a clean-cut business leader. The disclosures come as the gubernatorial contest with former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms tightens, with an InsiderAdvantage poll showing both candidates within a tenth of a point. The story adds another layer to a broader political battle in Georgia, where Senate races and other statewide contests are also intensifying.
