Georgia Senate showdown erupts over tariffs, Iran war and personal scandal accusations

Sen. Jon Ossoff and Rep. Mike Collins sparred in a heated debate, trading attacks over tariffs, Iran, data centers and allegations of white-nationalist ties.

In an hour-long face-off at Gray Media’s Atlanta studio, Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and Republican Rep. Mike Collins launched fierce personal attacks while debating key issues for Georgia voters. Ossoff vowed to undo the Trump administration’s tariffs, calling them a cause of soaring grocery prices, and painted Collins as a Trump loyalist who “sold out” the state. Collins countered by highlighting tax cuts from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and blaming the Inflation Reduction Act for rising costs, while also accusing Ossoff of receiving money from data-center billionaire Reid Hoffman.

The candidates sparred over data-center subsidies, Iran’s nuclear program and a federal raid that detained 475 undocumented workers at a Hyundai plant. Ossoff raised Collins’s alleged white-nationalist connections and a House ethics probe into misuse of funds, which Collins dismissed as a “nothingburger.” Both men also invoked voting-rights rhetoric, with Ossoff suggesting Collins would suppress Black voters, and Collins defended his support for local law enforcement assisting ICE.
