Georgia sets execution date for 2003 double murder convict Stacey Humphreys

Georgia’s prison system will carry out a lethal injection on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. for Stacey Humphreys, who was convicted of malice murder in the 2003 slayings of real-estate agents Cyndi Williams, 33, and Lori Brown, 21. The execution, set to occur at the state facility near Jackson, would be the first in Georgia since March 2024. Humphreys’ case has been tangled in litigation, including a dispute over whether two State Board of Pardons and Paroles members should recuse themselves because of alleged conflicts of interest.

A Fulton County judge ordered one member to step aside but allowed the other to remain, and the governor has not appointed a replacement. Appeals to the Georgia Supreme Court were denied, and a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court remains pending. The original crime involved Humphreys forcing the women to strip, obtain their PINs, and then shooting them before stealing their identification and withdrawing over $3,000.
