Georgia softball coach arrested on felony grooming charges after mother’s intervention

A 28-year-old Georgia coach was jailed on felony charges for grooming a 15-year-old player, continuing the conduct even after the teen’s mother intervened.

According to an affidavit, Katie Elizabeth McDevitt, 28, used her role as a teacher and softball coach to groom a 15-year-old girl on the Georgia Strike team, sending her romantic texts and arranging alone time in a hitting facility away from cameras. The conduct spanned from early February to late September, and persisted after the teen’s mother discovered the messages and tried to intervene. Walton County authorities arrested McDevitt on felony grooming charges, and she posted a $7,500 bond the following day.

Loganville Christian Academy placed her on administrative leave immediately after being notified, and the academy noted the victim was not enrolled there. Georgia Strike Softball also terminated her coaching duties, emphasizing player safety. McDevitt has not yet responded to requests for comment.
