German agriculture chief to push deeper food trade ties with Turkey

German Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer is set to travel to Ankara on Sept. 16-17 for talks with Turkey’s Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı. The agenda includes meetings with German and Turkish business representatives to identify cooperation avenues and boost bilateral trade. Rainer framed the visit as part of Germany’s agricultural export strategy, unveiled in December 2025, which targets new markets, reduces trade obstacles and provides funding for industry projects like market research and marketing campaigns.
He emphasized that Turkey is an important trading partner for Germany, noting the value of reliable partners during current geopolitical challenges. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding opportunities for the German agriculture and food sector.
