German industry group outlines $850 billion investment plan through 2028
A cross-industry coalition of 147 German firms and investors presented a report identifying five sectors where global capital could align with Germany’s strengths, and pledged over €850 billion in investments by 2028.
A consortium of 147 German companies and investors released a report pinpointing five key sectors—AI, next-generation industrial technologies, resilient energy systems, core infrastructure, and security and defence—where international capital can match Germany’s industrial capabilities and ongoing reforms. While acknowledging that high costs and regulatory challenges continue to suppress growth, the group argues that Germany’s political and legal stability, robust research ecosystem, skilled workforce, deep industrial base, and access to the European single market make it an attractive destination for long-term investment.
The report, which will be presented to Economy Minister Katherina Reiche by the CEOs of Deutsche Bank and Siemens, outlines a commitment to invest more than €850 billion through 2028, following €200 billion already allocated for 2025. The coalition is seeking further participation from other firms and investors and calls on policymakers to apply reforms consistently to turn interest into concrete projects.
Why it matters
The plan could channel substantial capital into Germany’s key industries, boosting growth and competitiveness.
