German industry group warns of escalating Russian sabotage and calls for stronger defence measures

The Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie says Russian sabotage against German firms and critical supply chains is growing and urges tighter protection.

The Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie warned that Russian sabotage operations targeting German businesses are increasing and diversifying. Deputy chief executive Holger Lösch noted that firms, critical infrastructure and defence-related supply chains are already under attack, making industrial strength essential for national defence, supply security and governmental capability. Citing a recent warning from the Bundesnachrichtendienst, he stressed that economic protection must become a cornerstone of national security policy.

Although companies are now receiving more threat information and coordination with authorities has risen, the BDI identified a significant shortfall in converting warnings into rapid, coordinated measures. Lösch called for established procedures and closer state-industry exchange to bridge this gap.
