German public transport fares set to rise in several regions for 2027
Major German transport associations announced fare hikes for 2027, while the Frankfurt area will keep prices unchanged.
Transport authorities in Berlin-Brandenburg, Munich, Hamburg and Bremen/Lower Saxony have disclosed average fare increases of roughly 3.5% to 5% that will take effect on 1 January 2027. In Berlin, the standard AB single-ride ticket stays at €4.00, but four-trip, short-distance and one outlet tickets will rise modestly. Munich will keep its short-distance and central-zone single tickets unchanged, while day, weekly and monthly passes climb in price and some ticket types are being phased out.
Hamburg’s central-zone fares stay the same, but short-distance and children’s tickets will increase, and the weekly ticket will be discontinued. Bremen and Lower Saxony will see a 3.5% average rise, with single tickets moving from €3.00 to €3.10 in Bremerhaven. The RMV in the Frankfurt region will hold fares steady while it works on a major fare overhaul. Meanwhile, estimates suggest the nationwide Deutschlandticket could rise slightly above its current €63 monthly price.
